Dear Property Owner,

Reducing lead poisoning is an important health initiative for the City of Paterson. If you are responsible for a residence that was built prior to 1978, it may contain a lead-based paint hazard. Lead based hazards can have serious health consequences. These consequences are not just for children and pregnant women but also for anyone spending time in this unsafe environment. The only permanent solution to lead hazards on your property is removal.

We are reaching out to property owners to let them know that low interest loans are available for lead paint abatement. The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs is providing low interest loans directly to property owners. With this source of funding, we can go a long way to reducing a major health problem within the City.

Loans are available for single and multi-family dwellings, whether the dwellings are owner or tenant occupied. For more information on these loans, please go to the Department of Community Affairs’ web site at: http://www.state.nj.us/dca.

It is the landlord’s responsibility to provide a tenant with safe, healthy housing. For more important information on lead hazards, you can call the City of Paterson, Division of Health at 973-321-1277 x2379.

Thank you for helping to keep Paterson lead safe.

Sincerely,

Joey Torres

Mayor
